Best Practices for Creating Strong and Secure Passwords Print

  • 0

Your DediRock account stores sensitive information, including billing details, hosting access, and domain settings. A strong password is the first line of defense against unauthorized access. By following simple best practices, you can greatly reduce the risk of your account being compromised.

Why Strong Passwords Matter

Hackers often use automated tools to guess weak passwords. A secure password makes it much harder for them to gain access. Protecting your DediRock Client Portal with a strong password keeps your hosting services and personal data safe.

Tips for Creating Strong Passwords

1. Use at Least 12 Characters

Longer passwords are harder to crack. Aim for 12–16 characters minimum.

2. Mix Different Character Types

Include:

  • Uppercase and lowercase letters

  • Numbers

  • Special symbols (e.g., !, @, #, $)

Example: G8#nqT!7vP2s

3. Avoid Common Words and Patterns

Don’t use:

  • “password123”

  • Your name or birthday

  • Keyboard patterns like qwerty or 123456

4. Use a Passphrase

Combine random words into a phrase that’s easy to remember but hard to guess.
Example: River!Sunset3Coffee*Moon

5. Don’t Reuse Passwords

Never reuse the same password across multiple accounts. If one site gets compromised, all your accounts are at risk.

6. Use a Password Manager

A password manager can:

  • Generate secure, unique passwords

  • Store them safely

  • Auto-fill login fields for you

Updating Your Password in DediRock

  1. Log in to the Client Portal.

  2. Click on your profile name in the top navigation.

  3. Select Change Password.

  4. Enter your current password, then your new strong password.

  5. Save changes.

Extra Security: Combine With 2FA

For maximum protection, pair your strong password with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). You can follow our guide here: How to Secure Your DediRock Client Portal with 2FA.
